HomeVets was founded in Towson, Maryland by Dr. Shawn Budge and his wife, Anna, in 2020 during the height of the Covid pandemic. After working in a busy hospital, Dr. Budge decided to create a veterinary practice that decreased stress and anxiety for his patients while increasing quality and convenience. Additionally, he recognized the need for the veterinary field to place more value on work-life balance for the dedicated professionals who have made caring for pets the focus of their careers. Thus, the HomeVets model was born. By providing veterinary appointments in the home, Dr. Budge was able to spend more time with each patient without putting them through the stress of a long wait or crowded hospital.
HomeVets became an immediate hit with clients. In 2021, Dr. Brittany Wolfe joined the HomeVets team as Dr. Budge’s partner veterinarian and began serving the Howard County area. Dr. Wolfe’s exemplary skills and compassionate care were quickly recognized by pet owners, and it didn’t take long before she became an extremely in-demand doctor and an essential member of the team.
As HomeVets’ popularity grew, it became clear that we needed a space where patients could receive the sort of diagnostics, procedures, and treatment that is only available in a hospital setting. In 2023 HomeVets opened its physical location in Ellicott City, Maryland. This newly renovated state-of-the-art facility allows patients to receive sophisticated medical care under the guidance of Dr. Wolfe who became Medical Director for the practice, and Dr. Erica Olney, who joined the team shortly after the clinic opened in 2023. In the HomeVets clinic, we are able to conduct surgeries, x-rays, dental procedures, and full abdominal sonograms, among other diagnostics and treatments.
HomeVets now serves pets throughout the Baltimore and Howard County area spanning just over 600 square miles, and is beloved by pet owners for our excellent doctors, the flexibility, convenience, and quality of care that our unique practice model provides. While she no longer answers the phones, Anna works hand in glove behind the scenes together with our practice administrator Aimee, to support the HomeVets team in achieving their mission. Dr. Budge is incredibly proud to be running a practice where high quality care for pets, and the wellbeing of our skilled staff members are priorities. As Dr. Budge says, “Practice good medicine, take care of your people, and everything else will fall into place.”
