Emergency Care

At HomeVets, we handle non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt attention without needing a costly ER visit. Our facility is equipped to stabilize pets in critical situations before transferring them to a specialized emergency hospital if necessary. In an emergency, please call us at (410) 715-8900 before arriving so we can best prepare for your pet’s care.

Signs of a pet emergency:

• Pale gums
• Rapid breathing
• Weak or rapid pulse
• Change in body temperature
• Difficulty standing
• Apparent paralysis
• Loss of consciousness
• Seizures
• Excessive bleeding
• Hit by car or other traumatic injury

If you think your pet has eaten or been exposed to something toxic:

Call us at (410) 715-8900 immediately! Outside of our regular hours, contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center’s 24-hour hotline at 888-426-4435. Trained toxicologists assess your pet’s age, health, and what was ingested and then recommend what action should be taken.

Emergency Facilities

If your pet is in need of immediate care during business hours, please call us. If we can get a doctor to you in an appropriate time frame, we will do so. If we are unable to send a doctor to your home, we will refer you to our hospital in Ellicott City, or depending on severity of the concern, one of the area Urgent or Emergency facilities listed below. If it is after hours, please do not wait for a response before bringing your pet to an ER.
